By Brian Moore NORMAN — The Fort Towson Tigers great season came to an end on Friday with a 74-52 loss to No.1 ranked Garber. Garber jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter while the Tigers had 3 of 5 (Phillip Clark, Shane Acker) starters begin the game in trouble with two fouls. The second quarter was much the same as Garber jumped out to a 19-point lead at the half. In the second half, Fort Towson hung with them, but could not come back for a win. “We knew we had to be real good to beat them. The first quarter set the tone. We didn’t play real well on defense and didn’t execute on offense,” Fort Towson coach Michael Clay said. The Tigers did make a run in the third quarter to cut Garber’s lead to 13, but two turnovers and two misses and Garber soon had a 20-point lead again. Every member of Fort Towson’s team got a chance to experience the state tournament aka “the big dance” in high school sports by playing in this game. “I’m really proud. We reached our goal of making the state playoffs with good leadership from Zack (Samaha). He led us there. I’m proud of them,” Coach Clay said. The Tigers were led by freshman Cade Clay, who had 17 points. Shane Acker had 12 while Samaha had 10. Phillip Clark was held to just 8 points in his final game for Fort Towson, while Jimmy Smith added 5. Garber became state champions on Saturday by beating No. 2 Okarche by 26 points. |
